The EFRAIM – project is driven by the following aims:
We aim
- to identify mechanisms of early protective exposures on allergy development using birth cohort studies with comprehensive measures of the developing immune response.
- to identify the dietary exposures early in life which protect against allergy development.
- to identify the exposures related to life style and the living environment early in life which protect against allergy development.
- to investigate the mechanisms by which the identified dietary and environmental exposures impact on the maturation of immune responses, gut colonization, and mucosal barrier function.
- to initiate translation of the resulting knowledge into avenues for the development of future preventive strategies using experimental in vitro systems and animal models of allergic asthma.
